Design of Astigmatism Test Chart Using Acuity Charts with Aligned Lines
Jung Se-Hoon

Abstract
Purpose: This study aimed to present a chart design for an astigmatism test using acuity charts with aligned lines to improve the patient¡¯s subjective judgment.

Methods: Acuity charts with aligned lines were arranged at intervals of 15¡Æ, from 90¡Æ to 105¡Æ, so that all nine acuity charts could be simultaneously discriminated.

Results: Acuity charts with aligned lines use the same method as with currently used astigmatic dials for the patient to discriminate the sharpness of the line. However, in the case of the presented acuity chart, a criterion for subjective judgment based on minimum separable acuity using bar spacing was added.

Conclusions: Compared with the conventional astigmatic dial, acuity charts with aligned lines have the advantage of patients being able to make more precise judgment of the change in the chart according to the degree of the astigmatism.
